1991 Porsche 964 C2 Cabriolet ***SOLD***

12. September, 2016

The new 964 version of the Porsche 911 that was launched in 1989 was seen as rather futuristic in its day due to the smooth integration of its body color bumpers and front bodywork with the body itself. But looking back, the 964 now fit neatly in Porsche history, leading up to the 993 models that bid farewell to a long legacy of air/oil cooled 911s. While the car looked suspiciously like it might be a mere reskin of the 930, 87% of the components were new or redesigned. The flat six engine was pushed out to 3.6 liters and 250 hp with strong and steady torque. The four wheel drive Carrera 4 was the form in which it made its debut in 1989, and it is now mainly selected by connoisseurs for its traction and handling in challenging weather conditions. The 964 today appeals to Porsche enthusiasts for its somewhat more refined ride and handling due to a suspension redesign to coil over springs and shocks, and much improved cabin features including a full length center console and height adjustable leather seats. Anti lock brakes were standard on all models, as were duel front airbags. A dual mass flywheel and variable assist power steering added to the advances in refinement. With a top speed of 163 mph and 0-60 in 5.5 seconds,Combining all of this, the 964 offered an overall driving experience thats a little more direct compared to the 993 that followed it.

Improved aerodynamics using knowledge gained from Le Mans winning 962 and technology from the 959, reduced the drag coefficient to 0.32, and with virtually zero lift greatly improved stability and road holding at high speed. A retractable rear spoiler automatically extends at 50mph and while increasing the downforce also doubles the volume of air intake for improved engine cooling. The spoiler automatically retracts at below 60 mph.

This particular 964 C2 cabriolet in a basalt black exterior and a red and black leather interior, has been with the current owner since 1998. It has been extremely well cared for and maintained. The paint is original with no re-sprays and the interior still looks new.  Recent servicing includes a full servicing of the A/C system, new motor mounts, engine reseal, air deflector replaced and a set of new tires. Having only 39,575 miles on the odometer, it looks and drives as it did when it rolled off of the showroom floor.  The Tiptronic transmission shifts quickly and smoothly whether in drive mode or shifting manually.

Only 2207 964 cabriolets were delivered to the U.S in 1991 and it is unknown as to how many were imported with a black exterior and a red and black leather interior.
